Bulletin: State Plan Autism Spectrum Disorder Services Line Therapy Credential Requirements

Dec. 1, 2016 - Effective July 1, 2017, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) will require that all applied behavior analysis (ABA) line therapists, providing treatment services to beneficiaries who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and approved for ASD services via the ASD Interim Process and/or the SC Medicaid State Plan, hold a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential.

The requirements for the RBT credential have been established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and can be found here: http://bacb.com/rbt/

The consulting Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will be responsible for continuity of care regarding beneficiaries who are under the care of Line Therapists who do not obtain an RBT credential by July 1, 2017.

For questions regarding this requirement, please contact autism@scdhhs.gov or lara.sheehi@scdhhs.gov.

Thank you for your continued support of the South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid program.
