Effective Jan. 1, 2020, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) will update daily limits for procedure codes for four Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) services and adopt the Medicare Eight Minute Rule to define service unit contact time for ASD services. The adoption of the Medicare Eight Minute Rule will be added to the ASD Services Provider Manual and the updated daily limits will be added to Section 4 of the manual by Jan. 1, 2020.

June 15, 2018 - SCDHHS will implement changes to the applied behavior analysis (ABA) fee schedule and the policy manual for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) services.

May 23, 2018 - SCDHHS will increase reimbursement for applied behavior analysis (ABA) provided by a registered behavior technician (RBT) to $15.50 per 30 minutes ($31 per hour).

March 13, 2018 - SCDHHS will implement the following changes to the policy manual for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) services.

Dec. 6, 2017 - SCDHHS will amend its autism spectrum disorder (ASD) manual to include additional providers that will be allowed to complete the comprehensive psychological assessment/testing report to determine if Medicaid beneficiaries meet medical necessity criteria for ASD services.

July 14, 2017 - The behavior assessment code of 0359T, while covered, was not included in the authorization letters.

June 30, 2017 - ASD providers may continue to utilize interpreter services through the SCDDSN as they have in the past.

May 4, 2017 - SCDHHS created a transition plan to guide provider activities during the Phoenix implementation.

May 1, 2017 -The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) announces the new Medicaid Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Provider Manual. This manual is effective July 1, 2017, and is to be used for program information and requirements, billing procedures and provider services guidelines.

Dec. 1, 2016 - Effective July 1, 2017, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) will require that all applied behavior analysis (ABA) line therapists, providing treatment services to beneficiaries who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and approved for ASD services via the ASD Interim Process and/or the SC Medicaid State Plan, hold a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential.
