2020 Provider Revalidation: Group 2 Temporarily Delayed Due to COVID-19
On Friday, March 13, 2020, President Donald Trump declared a national emergency due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency for the state of South Carolina. As a part of the state’s response to COVID-19, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) is delaying the provider revalidation process for Group 2, previously scheduled to begin on April 27, 2020, until further notice.
Pursuant to the national and state declarations of emergency, SCDHHS submitted a waiver under Section 1135 of the Social Security Act requesting a variety of administrative and regulatory flexibilities to aid in the state’s preparation and response to COVID-19. SCDHHS submitted this request on March 27, 2020, which, in part, sought permission from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to temporarily cease revalidation of providers who are located in South Carolina or are otherwise directly impacted by the emergency. Under section 1135(b)(1)(B), CMS granted approval to delay provider revalidation in a letter dated March 31, 2020.
This delay affects providers in Group 2, listed below:
