A periodicity schedule describes the set of screenings, procedures and services applicable at each stage of a beneficiary’s development, from birth through the last day of the month of their 21st birthday, that are based on recognized standards of medical and dental practice.

South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid has established the following schedules for preventive pediatric health care:

Periodicity Schedules

Medical Periodicity Schedule

Dental Periodicity Schedule

  • SCDHHS has developed the Dental Periodicity Schedule following the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) on Periodicity of Examination, Preventive Dental Services, Anticipatory Guidance and Oral Treatment for Infants, Children and Adolescents

SCDHHS also covers medically necessary “inter-periodic” screening outside of the periodicity schedule when there is an indication of a medical need to diagnose an illness or condition that was not present at the regularly scheduled screening or to determine if there has been a change in a previously diagnosed illness or condition that requires additional services.
