Addressing Youth Behavioral Health Needs for Families

The vision of South Carolina Family Resources and Supports is to assist and encourage families of children with behavioral healthcare needs to use resources and supports available to strengthen and empower their families and improve their quality of life.  Our missions is to create a structure in which family driven and youth guided family advocacy for children and adolescents is coordinated and provided statewide.

Able SC is a change agent committed to fostering an inclusive society that empowers South Carolinians with disabilities to live fully-engaged and self-directed lives. It’s a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross disability nonprofit that provides an array of independent living services. More than half of Able SC’s staff are persons with disabilities, as are over half of our Board of Directors. Able SC provide services to individuals with any disability, at any age; they also provide services to parents who have disabilities. Additionally, Able SC’s EQUIP program provides services for young adults (ages 13-28) to provide them with the tools they need to become successful adults.  Specifically, EQUIP teaches young adults about leadership, disability pride, and empowerment, and educates the community about the importance and value of inclusion.  EQUIP offers online and in-person monthly hangout sessions and activities throughout the year.

We are a statewide nonprofit organization that links families of children with special healthcare needs and disabilities with resources, support and education. Our support for families includes a family-to-family network, statewide offices and a host of programs to educate, inspire and empower families and their children to live rich, fulfilling lives in spite of many challenges. Our programs and services are centered on the concept of parent-to-parent support and the fact that families with shared experiences are uniquely qualified to help each other.

FamilyCorps

FamilyCorps is a statewide nonprofit providing evidence based family strengthening programs for child welfare and juvenile justice involved families.  Facilitators trained in the Parents Anonymous® Support Group Model provide a network parent and youth support groups which are evidence based as an effective Intervention for Abuse and an effective Parent Partner Program Model.   Parent Advocates are trained and certified to work one-on-one with parents outside of group support. All programs and trainings are designed to strengthen families to achieve personal growth, improve functioning and wellbeing and promote parent leadership and advocacy.

The Federation of Families of South Carolina is a nonprofit organization serving families of children with any degree of emotional, behavioral or psychiatric disorder. The services and programs offered by the Federation are designed to meet the individual and varying needs of families around the state. Through family and youth support networks, educational materials, publications, conferences/workshops and other activities, the Federation provides many avenues of support for families of children and youth with emotional, behavioral or substance use service needs.

NAMI South Carolina

NAMI South Carolina is a statewide nonprofit agency offering free support groups and courses for family members of children and adolescents displaying symptoms of mental health conditions.  We offer presentations for teens and in-service presentations to agencies and community partners that work with children and youth.  Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals who live with mental illnesses and for their families by promoting the availability of effective services and resources, through education, support and advocacy.

PRO-Parents of South Carolina

Parents Reaching Out to Parents of South Carolina, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization which provides information, training and assistance about education to families of children with all types of disabilities.  Experienced staff assists parents to become more aware of their rights through telephone counseling, trainings and written material.  PRO-Parents also serve professionals in education and related fields throughout South Carolina.
